In The Hood

Last week one day I was driving home through my neighbourhood when I realized that the light was perfect, and that we still had lots of glorious colour to be found. I walked around my yard and neighbourhood and captured these images.

We've lost a lot of this colour now. Thank you for bearing with me andcontinuing to read my blog even though I've been far away from creating quilted art for a while. This week I am in my dyeing dungeon and my studio and will soon have progress to report.

Same Place, Different Day

A week later we went back to Mer Bleue Bog while the sun was shining. The colours were still glorious.

I am working on getting back into the studio. It has been a while and I am out of practice. I mixed up some dyes tonight to create fabric for a new idea.

A Little Contemplative Photography Back Home in Ottawa

I've been meaning to send this post out for days. Unfortunately, I became distracted by the US election. I've had a hard time concentrating for the last few days. These photos were taken the day after returning from my Contemplative Photography class, while walking the boardwalk at the Mer Bleue Bog, south of Ottawa.

We were fortunate to capture some blue jays feeding, however, they are extremely difficult to capture because they don't stay still for very long.

The colour this fall just keeps on giving! We've been very fortunate to have relatively temperate weather too.

I believe these are larch trees. They are actually a coniferous tree, but they turn a glowing shade or golden yellow in autumn.

Where does the path lead? Cropping away the sky seems to really bring focus to that path.

I really am not sure what this fungus is but it almost looks as though it could be a cute little animal if only it had eyes!

I adore water droplets and have a quilt featuring them percolating in my brain.

Contemplative Photography, The Juxtaposition of Seasons

Normally snow is not something we welcome with excitement, but a snowfall during our photography class last week afforded us a wonderful opportunity to make pictures of the juxtaposition of two seasons (autumn and winter). I forgot how cold and damp it was when I became immersed in the looking and seeing. It had mostly melted by the time we were on the road to drive home on Friday night.

Contemplative Photography: An Asian Aesthetic

My friend and I arrived back home from our photography class on Friday night. I'm catching up on posts about the class. In case you might have the impression that I am switching from quilt artistry to photo artistry, I assure you I am not. But one feeds the other. This class, for me, was about a new and way of seeing that is less conditioned by thinking, and more influenced by "perceptions" while in the moment. In this assignment we were to seek imagery with an Asian aesthetic, demonstrating purity, simplicity and space. Hopefully they will offer you a little peace within your Monday. More to come.
