Jet Lagged but Happy
In the wee hours of the morning we returned from a two-week vacation in Italy. As many of you know, I was scheduled to teach at the new Abruzzo School of Creative Art in Abruzzo, Italy, later this month. Although a small number of the classes offered at Abruzzo will be running, most (including mine) did not have sufficient registrations. Given how much my husband and I love Italy, we decided to go anyway. This time our travels took us far off the beaten path to the villages and countryside of Umbria, and the villages and gardens of Lazio. Wild poppies were in bloom across Italy when we arrived, and I took the above photo in the olive groves along the winding road to the hilltop town of Terni. Over the next week I will be blogging with photos of the many amazing sites I saw.
While I was on vacation, I learned that my quilt "In the Act", which you have now seen many times, took Second Place in the Infinity Art Gallery's International Fiber Art Show.
To see all the prize winners, and to read what Juror Margot Lovinger wrote about my work, click on this link. To see all the works in the show click on this link.
That's two awards for "In the Act" within weeks. I am thrilled and honoured to have been chosen.
Stay tuned for some gorgeous photos coming up. Now I need a nap.

Congratulations! Love the juror's comments on your work. Looking forward to more information on your trip.
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather. Info coming soon when I'm a bit less jetlagged :-)
DeleteCongratulations! Well deserved, too. I don't see a mountainous landscape, I see hostas. Glad you went to Italy even though your class fell through, isn't this your second trip there in less than a year? How awesome is that!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura. Well that is the beauty of art, we can all see what we want to see. Personally, I saw hostas too. We went to Italy in August last year, and it was hot hot hot, so we decided to choose a cooler month this year, and it was still hot! I am very lucky to have gone again so soon.
DeleteHeartiest congratulations, Elaine, and welcome home! Did I ever tell you how much I LOVE poppies! that is a stunning photo. Love the shimmery, silvery green of the olivetrees with the scarlet, crinkly poppies! Delicious 😍
ReplyDeleteHave we got poppies for you Carolynn! More to come. The poppies were starting to die in the heat when we left, and I noticed the first sunflowers starting to bloom. Wish I could have stayed for that!
DeleteCongratulations, Elaine! I'm glad you had a fabulous time in Italy and can't wait to see the photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks M-R. I missed your talk at OVQG because of Italy. I heard it was great.
DeleteWonderful picture of Italy! Congrats on your quilt! Sleep! LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks ... I'm trying to sleep ...
